Electricity Production & Consumption in india

India is one of the most densely populated countries and if I talk in numbers, according to recent statistics it's approximately 423.68 people per square kilometre.

Based on worldometer elaboration of the latest United Nations data , Friday 24th September 2021 the population of India is 1.3 billion approx.

Now this is a really big number. India's population is approx 17.6% of world population.

For this huge population we need a very humongous source of power and this power runs the country more than 65% of electricity is generated by Thermal power plants which produce electricity using steam.

For generating this steam consumption of natural fuel (coal, oil, natural gases, biomass and nuclear energy) is very necessary.

53% of Thermal power is obtained by coal and the rest from other sources.

Due to everyday more consumption of coal and other natural fuels soon we will see the shortage of natural fuel.

Industrial sector is less dependent on electricity than the commercial and residential sector. According to the IGIDR MUMBAI textiles industry uses electricity more than any other industry , in the 1990s the consumption was 18.5 peta joules and in 2005 it was 169.8 peta joules. We can see clearly that in just 15 years it has increased to 9.1 times and now we use approx 15-20% of total electricity.

What do you think , is it for us?

In my own words, I think as I mentioned earlier that we produce electricity by burning fuel and if we continue this it will harm our environment and end fossil fuels. To be honest I consider solar energy a good initiative but we all know the reality. It's about preserving our environment and more about making things happen in new ways.

What are the solutions?

  • The first and most important is we need global support for young inventors.

  • As a sovereign government we need to talk about it globally and we need to understand the seriousness of matter.

  • As a common citizen we need to use it as per our need, try to not waste electricity.
