Marijuana should be legal in India

It is too controversial issue that Merijuana should be legal or not. Why did I use "too" because it is really very difficult to decide?

Marijuana is a drug used for meditative, recreational or religious purposes. Ayurveda mentions

the use of marijuana as a pain reliever and has religious beliefs as well.

The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and excise laws in several

states restrict people from consuming cannabis or any of its byproducts. But nowadays state

governments have started to legalise it for mediative and industrial purposes like Odisha,

Uttarakhand , Madhyapradesh...

When we say it should be legal so there's so many benefits of legalisation of Marijuana like

Revenue generation, Medical benefits of marijuana,Employment generation and so on…

But we should not hide disadvantages of merijuana like increase in rates of crimes, addiction,

adversely affect one’s health in spite of it, create mental disorders, cultivation is harmful for

wildlife and many more…

But when we have to decide anything on any controversial topic, we should not only check out

the pros and cons but also it requires deep analysis.

A recent study‘2018 Cannabis Price Index’ conducted by ABCD revealed Delhi to be the

third-highest consumer of cannabis in the world, only behind New York and Karachi. There are

27 million cannabis (bhang) users in India. An additional 16 million Indians use illegal

cannabis products.

So it means that the whole buysell is a form of blackmarketing and no revenue for the country

even if it creates a grand blackmarket and Corruption .

Cannabis was illegalized only due to the pressure of western countries. Now even the western

countries have realized their mistake and have started legalizing cannabis. Merijuana is less

harmful than alcohol.

For avoiding blackmarketing and getting benefits of merijuana cultivation , merijuana should

be legalised with some precautions like -

1. Only cannabis extract containing no more than 0.5% THC and no less than 10%

CBD, by weight should be allowed.

2. There should be laws regarding the possession, cultivation, and supply of

marijuana in the market by the government and not by drug dealers.
